Freedom from external expectations

Embracing our own pace for more fulfillment and vitality

The Snow and the Road: A Story of Two Speeds

Right now, I’m looking out my front window. Snow is falling gently to the ground, slow and steady.

The driveway I spent hours shoveling yesterday is once again coated in white. Birds flit from tree to tree, and the landscape feels calm, quiet, and rhythmic—a mirror of nature’s winter hibernation.

And then there’s the road.

A straight, busy road just beyond the snow-covered trees. Cars zoom by in a constant flow, moving at 45 mph, always rushing to get from point A to point B.

The scene is a striking contrast: nature’s slow, steady rhythm versus humanity’s relentless hustle.

It makes me wonder: What if we moved more like the snow? What if we didn’t rush so much? Would we still get to where we’re meant to be? And more importantly, how would the journey feel?

Why It Matters to Embrace Your Own Pace

The world tells us to hustle, to move faster, to achieve more. It praises efficiency and speed, often at the expense of presence and sufficiency.

But what if the way we’re told to move isn’t the way we’re meant to?

For me, freedom isn’t found in chasing someone else’s expectations. It’s found in living at a pace that feels true to me—a pace that allows me to sled with my boys, to watch the snow fall, to move rhythmically instead of rigidly.

It’s about leading with the heart, not the hustle.

The Trap of External Expectations

Most people move like the cars on that busy road, focused on getting from point A to point B. They follow external directions: influencers, societal norms, and “how-to” guides that promise success.

But when you’re always looking outside yourself, you lose touch with your intuition—the inner wisdom that knows your unique path.

I’ve fallen into this trap before, doubting my own instincts and following someone else’s map.

The result? Misalignment. Stress. A feeling of being robbed of balance and joy.

The Unlock: Trusting Your Inner Wisdom

Every time I’ve found alignment and peace, it’s because I slowed down and listened to my intuition.

I let go of the rush and trusted the pace that felt right for me. I chose to:

  • Simplify instead of overextend.

  • Stabilize instead of sprint.

  • Feel instead of force.

And in those moments, I remember something powerful: Freedom isn’t in doing more. It’s in trusting your own rhythm.

True freedom comes from within—from listening to your intuition, moving at your own pace, and letting go of external expectations.

Freedom in Simplicity

As I sit by the window, watching the snow fall, I feel a profound sense of clarity.

Life isn’t about chasing milestones or pleasing others. It’s about finding beauty in the ordinary, trusting the seasons of life, and allowing myself to just be.

When we lead with intuition, we make choices that feel right in the moment and aligned with our long-term vision.

We create space for presence and joy, even in a world that insists on speed and efficiency.

Your Invitation to Reflect

Below is a reflection opportunity for you to get clear on where this exists in your own life. Take a moment to settle in and consider the questions below using the audio above to guide you. When you’re finished with the visualization, answer the following questions:

  • Are you moving at a pace that feels aligned with your true self?

  • What external expectations could you let go of to create more freedom in your life?

  • How can you listen to your intuition more deeply this week?

Take Action: Move at Your Pace

Choose ONE thing you’ll do to prioritize your life around your pace today and this week. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  1. Move from the inside-out. Spend five minutes in stillness today, observing your surroundings and reconnecting with your breath. Notice your natural pace and move with it vs moving only based on the external stimuli.

  2. Let it go. Identify one expectation or commitment that doesn’t align with your values and simply let it go (even if it feels like you can’t).

  3. Listen inward and pause before responding. Set an intention to follow your intuition in one decision this week, no matter how small.

Let your Pace Be Your Guide

The snow falls gently, slowly, in its own time. It doesn’t rush, and yet it transforms the landscape.

This week, I invite you to do the same. Let go of the rush. Trust your rhythm. Live fully in the flow of life’s seasons.

Thanks for tuning in this week, friend. Wishing you a week aligned with how you want to feel and be.

With gratitude for your presence here,

Krista
